Summer 2025: Dido and Aeneas
(If you’ve arrived here from the “Buy Tickets” QR code, it’s because we haven’t set up the TicketSource page yet - sorry about that! The TicketSource page will be set up by Monday 30 June at the very latest, at which point the QR code will take you there instead.)
We are very excited to present Dido and Aeneas, arguably the first English opera and one of Purcell's masterpieces. Drawing on French, Italian and English models, Purcell created a work that was unique in its own time and which had few successors until the 20th century. Perhaps best known for the heartbreaking aria 'When I am laid in earth' ('Dido's Lament'), the work is notable for the expressiveness of its music, ranging in style from the delicate to the rumbustious, and for the very substantial part played by the chorus. We are presenting it in a concert performance, with soloists for the main parts and others taken up by members of the choir. We look forward to seeing you there!
The concert takes place on Saturday 12 July from 7:30pm in St. Anne’s Church, St. Ann’s Hill, Wandsworth SW18 2RS
All are welcome to attend, particularly younger fans of classical music, as under-18s are admitted free of charge, and tickets are half price for 18-25 or full time students. Tickets for adults are priced at £12.50 in advance, available from TicketSource from Monday 30 June at the latest (we’ll link to the page from here once it’s up!), or £15 on the door.
